Favorite drinks of the stars
Matthew McConaughey
Bourbon
Like so many of his colleagues, Matthew McConaughey has sold his reputation to the marketing of luxury goods. In his case, he has even taken on the title of Creative Director for the American brand Wild Turkey.
For Matthew McConaughey, it was a chance to work with one of his great passions, American Bourbon. And as he says: "It shouldn't be too complicated. You don't want to spend your time constructing a complicated cocktail. Start with a straight Bourbon - and finish with a Bourbon on the Rocks."
In his collaboration with Wild Turkey, he has since 2016 been focussing on making the brand more appealing to women – as well as increasing international sales. He simply manages the brand's storytelling and campaigns. Besides this, he has been involved in the development of Wild Turkey Longbranch: an eight-year-old bourbon that is double-filtered through charcoal, which adds a uniquely smoky flavor to the bourbon.
George Clooney
Lick-shoot-suck!
As in: Lick the salt - throw the tequila in your mouth - bite into a slice of lime. This is how most people know the Mexican national drink, Tequila Cruda. The saltiness and acidity help develop the finer flavours of the sharp-tasting tequila. But it can also be a soft, golden drink, perfect for a thoughtful moment in front of a crackling fire on a cold winter's day.
And that's exactly the kind of tequila that actor George Clooney has fallen in love with. He was in no way impressed by the standard tequilas on the market. So, in 2013, together with two of his best friends, he started producing his own private brand: Tequila Casamigos. Now, a name like George Clooney can go a long way when it comes to marketing a new product. Just look at Nespresso. But in fact, the Hollywood star's tequila is rated as one of the best. .
It hasn't just given George Clooney a tequila that tastes the way he likes it. It has also made him considerably richer. In 2017, the three owners sold the brand to the multinational company Diageo for no less than one billion dollars!
Robert De Niro
The De Niro Martini
He was unforgettable in the 1974 film God Father and played brilliantly in Silver Linings Playbook (2012). But the now 79-year-old Robert De Niro is still active. In business, too, owning a restaurant and his own vodka brand: VDKA 6100. Since 2014, he has been co-owner of the New Zealand-based company, which produces a vodka with a particularly clean and mild flavor. This is perhaps due to the New Zealand spring water used in its production.
The Hollywood star has taken an active part in the development and launch of VDKA 6100, which is referred to as a 'Super-Premium brand'. This was a requirement of his when he was asked to participate in the project in 2012. He has therefore been an integral part of the tasting of the vodka, bottle development, design, marketing and campaign.
De Niro's vodka was appropriately launched at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival in New York and has since taken vodka enthusiasts by storm. And perhaps De Niro's interest in vodka stems from his favorite drink, The De Niro Martini.

Ryan Reynolds
The ’Vasectomy’ drink
The Canadian-born actor, known for thrillers such as Deadpool and superhero movies like X-Men, is also the proud father of four children. That's why he enjoys being celebrated on Father's Day. He has developed his very own favourite drink: The Vasectomy. A drink he calls The Mother of All Cocktails.
It's a bittersweet drink made of cranberry juice, tonic, a dash of lemon juice and gin. Quite simply. And with a bittersweet twist. But why he named it The Vasectomy, well, that remains to be known. Because as he says: This drink is as refreshing as being the father of four. "There's really no reason to name this drink The Vasectomy, especially when you've finally gotten a full night's sleep!"
And as a little bonus information: Ryan Reynolds has also owned his own gin distillery, Aviation Gin, which he sold in 2020 for 845 million dollars!
